Denver’s Road Home is the name of the 10-year
plan set up by The Denver Commission to End Homelessness. This
plan consists
of 7 Goals which are each designed to address different aspects of the
homeless problem.
Naturally, since Denver Rescue Mission (DRM) has been helping the homeless
for over 100 years, we are contributing significantly to this initiative.
Listed below are some of the ways that DRM is participating in the Denver's
Road Home.
Goal 1: Permanent and Transitional Housing
DRM has provided 77 transitional
units to help fulfill Goal 1 of the Mayor's Plan.
DRM started Family
and Senior Homeless Initiative (FSHI),
a family mentoring program which helps families get into permanent
housing and mentors the families to help them stay in housing.
Goal Abstract: Develop adequate permanent and
transitional housing opportunities to meet the needs of people
at 0-30% Area Median Income (AMI) or less than $15,050 per year.
Goal 2: Shelter System
DRM made 170 beds available at our Lawrence Street
Shelter allowing us to hold 200 people every night, not including
overflow.
Also, DRM has 20 respite beds available at The Crossing for homeless
men released from the hospital.
Goal Abstract: Make safe and legal shelter
beds and activities available for all populations both day and
night until adequate permanent housing is in place.
Goal 4: Services
DRM works with the staff of Denver
Department of Human Services who assist homeless people with
benefits.
Goal Abstract: Provide better access to supportive
services that promote long-term stability, improved functioning for
those
in need and movement into permanent housing.
