If we succeed in bringing hope only for a day to the poor and homeless, then we have done something worthwhile.
But more than sharing food and gifts on Christmas Day, we want to extend the good news of Jesus’ birth—a hope that lasts beyond December 25th.
Your concern for the poor allows us to share the Hope of the World with those who are despairing and weary. Thank you for remembering the needy this holiday season! |

 |
| Because of your faithful support even in these hard times, the Mission can host a number of Christmas events for our city’s poor. Our goal is to spread cheer and lasting hope to as many people as possible! With this in mind, we’ve designed Christmas celebrations and events for many poor and needy groups in our community. Here are some of our upcoming events this season. Thank you for all you do to make them possible!
|
Christmas Wishes on Wheels |
For families experiencing hardship, there’s no better place to find gifts than at the Mission’s Christmas Wishes on Wheels event. We’ll provide free gifts for up to 1,500 children and teenagers during a special day. Families pre-register to receive a Christmas bag filled with toys for their children.
|
Special Christmas Meals |
Thanks to your generous donations, we’ll share the warmth of a traditional holiday meal with hundreds of homeless and needy guests at the Lawrence Street Shelter and The Crossing.
|
21st Annual Children’s Christmas Party |
The Mission will host a special Christmas party for over 200 children, ages three to six, who attend daycare centers serving low-income families. Children will visit with Santa Claus, have their faces painted, be given balloon animals, and get soft, new teddy bears donated by Family Christian Stores. They’ll also receive stockings stuffed by the Mile High Rotary Club and experience “ ’Twas the Night Before Christmas” read by special volunteer guest Clint Hurdle, Manager of the Colorado Rockies. For some of these children, this party provides the only gifts they will receive this Christmas.
|
Adopt-A-Family |
Christmastime is family time, and this year, through our Adopt-A-Family program, volunteer sponsors will deliver gifts and a delicious Christmas meal to nearly 300 low-income families in the Denver area. Families facing hardship fill out wish lists that allow volunteer sponsors to show their love by bringing gifts that will meet their adopted family’s particular needs.
|
Holiday Party at The Crossing |
Families trying to rebuild their lives and achieve self-sufficiency through the STAR program will enjoy the 10th Annual Broncos Christmas Party. This memorable event is held at The Crossing and hosted by Champ Bailey. Several Denver Broncos will attend, and 200 low-income men, women and children will receive Christmas presents, food and holiday cheer from the Broncos.

Your donation will bring hope to the homeless and needy this Christmas. We can’t offer programs like these without your support. Please give a gift on our secure Web page: www.DenverRescueMission.org/donate.html. |

From the CEO |
Dear Friends,
People are hurting, and
they need your help.
Recently, I finished
reading a book entitled
it by Craig Groeschel,
the senior pastor of
LifeChurch.tv. In his
book, he encourages us to pray the words
he prayed so that our hearts will be
touched: “God, ruin me.” He states:
…ask God to ruin you. Expose yourself
to something that you know will move
you. Don’t shrink back. Don’t fight your
emotions. Don’t lay another brick atop
your self-made wall of protection. Give
in to the heart. Feed the hurt. Let it grow.
Let it bother you. Invite it to overtake you.
Now, instead of being rock solid in my
emotions, I cry often. I tear up when
people hurt. I carry their burdens home
with me.
I care deeply about people
who are in need. Suffering bothers
me. Injustice haunts me. When I know
someone who is hurting, it wrecks me.
People are suffering, they are hurting,
right here in our city, in our neighborhoods,
across the street, maybe in our own homes.
This Christmas season, let’s ask God to
ruin us, and allow our hearts to be opened
to those who need our love, our time, our
encouragement—and yes, our gifts—so
they will not hurt as much, so they can
begin the healing process.
Be moved, be brokenhearted, and tear up
with me as we bring hope—the hope of
Jesus Christ—to those who are homeless
and hurting.
God bless!
