I cannot imagine waking up on Christmas morning in a homeless shelter. But on December 25, 300 men will awaken at our Lawrence Street Shelter, and 150 more at the Emergency Shelter the City asked us to open and operate.
Another 250 people will wake up in our New Life Program, most of who are trying desperately to overcome addiction; all hoping for a changed life. And still another 180 people—families and seniors—will welcome Christmas from their STAR Transitional Program rooms at The Crossing.
In total, that is almost 900 people, bigger than some small towns. Although their life situations are critical, they are mostly thankful—thankful to you for providing them food, clothing, a warm place to stay, and hope. Hope for a new life, a life free of addiction, and a chance to move out of poverty.
So as you awaken to celebrate Christmas morning, please know that you are needed and appreciated by some 900 people just a few miles away in your town. Thank you for remembering those in need this Christmas season. Merry Christmas to all!
