Family Refugee Services (FRS) in partnership
with Lutheran Family Services (LFS) is matching refugee families
with mentoring teams to help them establish a new life in America.

Refugees are coming from: Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eastern Europe, Cuba,
and elsewhere.

What are the goals of mentoring a refugee family?
Build
a trusting friendship
Help meet their basic needs
Provide guidance toward self-sufficiency
Provide a living witness of the love of Christ .
What is expected of the mentoring team?
Form a team of 6 mentors, give 4-5 hours a month of service for
up to 6 months, then
FRS will provide direction for your outreach.
What kind of things can the mentor team do?
Provide for: food, clothing, furniture and household items, English tutoring,
transportation, job coaching, budgeting.
Provide guidance with grocery shopping, basic nutrition, domestic and
hygiene needs, use of modern appliances and technology.
Pick the family up at the airport and help them move into their new home.
Acclimate the family to their new culture and surroundings.
Provide social and entertainment activities.
How do FRS and LFS help?
We provide a three-hour mentoring team training (care team model).
We provide a bilingual caseworker.
We provide on-going follow-up and support with the team during the duration
of their outreach (including three 59-minute team meetings with LFS
staff).
What does it cost to place a family into housing?
FRS is contributing $2000 toward each refugee family's housing
cost.
Any assistance from the mentoring team and/or their church and/or organization
is welcome.
