Letter from the CEO

March 01, 2018

Dear Friends,

In my office I have a silver bar—maybe more of a paper weight, really—that has these words attributed to the former Prime Minister of England, Winston Churchill:

Never, never, never give up.

The Easter season is a great reminder of what we believe Jesus did for us and what we are called to do for others. Hebrews 12:2 says, “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Jesus did not give up. He could have stopped the crucifixion but he did not. He persevered. He did what was needed so that we might experience his grace, his incredible love.

The next verse in Hebrews (12:3) calls us to never give up, when it says, “Consider him (Jesus) who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

To do this work at the Mission, we have to keep our eyes on Jesus, be willing to go the extra mile and not lose heart. At times, we are treated poorly by the people we serve. Staff members have been screamed at, spit on, punched, kicked, and cursed by some of our guests. They have had their tires slashed, and have been threatened with their very lives. But they keep suiting up and showing up. They keep coming back!

I believe as Christians we are called to never give up. After we have been treated poorly, the world will look up and say, “Are you still here?” And no matter what has happened, we should say, “Yes, we are still here, and we will be here tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that!”

Thank you for coming alongside of us in this work, never giving up, making sure people have a way out of poverty and the opportunity to hear the good news about Jesus. We appreciate your financial support and your prayers.

Happy Easter!

God Bless,

Brad Meuli
